Funded by the Centre for Sustainable, Healthy and Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods (SHLC)’s Capacity Development Acceleration Fund, this project supported a group of 32 urban researchers who took part in a 6-day workshop to increase understanding of the many demands of urban planning.
Background

India is striving to reshape its urban landscape, to make cities sustainable and inclusive but also investment-friendly. This workshop aimed to support early career researchers to gain a clear understanding of the many aspects of urban planning required to build the India of the future.

The main aim of the workshop, ran in partnership with the Centre for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University, was to build on the existing understanding of the urban sector and to bridge the knowledge gap of the early career researchers. The work shop focussed on: this was achieved by focussing on:

Facilitating the development of a new generation of multi-disciplinary urban researchers;

  • Strengthening the knowledge and skills in theory and practice, research methodologies, data analysis, in the urban sectors;
  • Strengthening innovative quantitative and qualitative research skills, methods, and data systems to study urbanization;
  • Strengthening the capacity to undertake evidence-based urban research and influence policy and practice;
  • Developing the skills of logical frameworks, monitoring and evaluation of projects;
  • Enhancing soft skills such as negotiations, conflict management and presentation techniques.

This research project ‘Capacity Building Workshop for Early Career Researchers on issues and challenges of Urban Sector’ was funded by the Centre for Sustainable, Healthy and Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods (SHLC)’s Capacity Development Acceleration Fund.
