Kato Jonas Njunwa
Emeritus Professor
Emeritus Professor Kato Jonas Njunwa retired in 2019 but continues being engaged in various research activities at the University of Rwanda including actively participating in the SHLC project.
He completed his PhD from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, in 1993. His research areas have been mainly in public health where from 1986 he was involved in research for malaria vector control in tropical Africa. Most rural areas of Africa did not have a means of Anopheles mosquito control to protect them against malaria transmission. Eventually, with concerted global efforts long lasting insecticide treated nets have come to be one of the key arsenals in malaria control.
Prof Kato Jonas Njunwa has published over 40 peer reviewed papers and several reports. He has taught and successfully supervised both undergraduate and postgraduate students in various areas of public health. Over the years he was able to receive various research grants.
Prof Kato Njunwa has served as a Director of Research, and Consultancy in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, and also as Acting University of Rwanda Director of Research, Innovation and Postgraduate studies for close to three years.
